The SA Smart ID card is the safest ID in South Africa, so scanning it proves who you are and lifts the limits. It is not the only way in — a cell-number wallet or a TapAPI tag works without it, at safe starter limits.
A wallet opened with your cell number can pay up to R4 800 at a time, up to R15 000 a day, and hold up to R30 000. A tag bought with cash, with no number given, is capped at R200 a payment, R500 a day and R5 000 held. Scan your SA Smart ID for the highest limits: R8 000 a payment, R25 000 a day and R50 000 held.
